Steve Denton is a Wales-based scenographer and accessories designer. Before moving into scenography and performance design, he studied Architecture in the UK and Sweden. Since then, he has designed sets and costumes for venues large and small, in areas as diverse as dance, opera, theatre, pantomime and musicals. Outside the UK, Steve’s work has toured to countries including Cuba, Russia and Japan’s Tokyo International Festival. Recent projects include collaborations with Contact (Manchester), Collective Encounters and Black Rat Productions. Currently, he is working closely with ‘ballet company who like to do things a bit differently’ Ballet Cymru (Welsh Ballet).
Steve has exhibited his designs, drawings and painting in galleries across the UK. In 2007, Steve was selected to represent the UK at the Prague Quadrennial festival of Theatre Design, and then was chosen to exhibit his work again at the Victoria & Albert Museum. Steve is also the Creative Director of accessories company iMadeUK.
Steve has taught and designed for several UK colleges, including Mountview Theatre School and the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama. Recently, he created a new Sewing Skills apprenticeship programme for costume designers.
