Spectretown dir. Matthew Lenton

August 6, 2015 @ 8:00 am - August 31, 2015 @ 5:00 pm

Spectretown Edinburgh Festival Richard Evans

Designed by Richard Evans
Directed by Matthew Lenton
Written by Elspeth Turner

Spectretown is a new play by acclaimed writer and performer Elspeth Turner, inspired by the bothy ballads of Scotland’s North East. In Spectretown, Turner (The Idiot at the Wall, 2012) and acclaimed director Matthew Lenton (Vanishing Point) explore the fraying boundaries between past, present, and future. Weaving poetry, Doric, wild horses, and song, this courageous new play deftly wrestles with tradition, power, and the loneliness of modern life.

Matthew Lenton is the acclaimed artistic director of Vanishing Point, the company he founded in 1999. He works from Scotland, across the UK and internationally. His shows have been performed in over 20 countries.

Elspeth Turner is an actor, writer, musician, and founder of Stoirm Òg. Her first play, The Idiot at the Wall premièred at the Edinburgh Fringe 2012, and went on to tour throughout Scotland in 2013. Stoirm Òg is the current Company in Residence at the Cumbernauld Theatre
