This Room – UK Tour
February 27, 2015 - May 24, 2015
Design by: Alison Neighbour
Written and performed by: Laura Jane Dean
Devised by Laura Jane Dean with Daisy Orton, This Room is a newly piece about illness, recovery and what happens in our brains in between those two states. The performance follows Head Hand Head, Dean’s ‘powerful’ (Exeunt) show about obsessive compulsive disorder, which portrayed the disease as an injury rather than a personality flaw. This Room explores further the meaning of ‘being ill’ and ‘being well’, interrogating the neurological process behind our perception of whether we are ‘ok’, or not. Initial performances at Battersea Arts Centre will be followed by a short tour to Cambridge Science Festival, and the Maudsley Hospital. Further details available from Laura Jane Dean’s Website.

Reviews for Head Hand Head include:
“Dark, mesmerising, and disconcertingly familiar… Laura’s story is so personal, and her delivery so relatable, that we’re completely invested in her reflections, and in the half-stifling mirror world she’s created.” Exeunt Magazine
“A quietly devastating show, that blazes with honesty” A Younger Theatre
“Nothing is off limits in Head Hand Head, and it is this which makes it captivating to watch” ****Broadway Baby
“A gripping and powerful piece” ****Three Weeks
“Our society looks at mental illness as a character flaw, as less serious than “real” injury. Laura’s triumph is showing us what it is. The truth is terrifying” ****Festival Journal
