As the Mother of a Brown Boy – Just Theatre
March 19, 2015 - March 22, 2015
Set Designer: Richard Evans
Producing Theatre: Chickenshed Theatre
The true story about a mother and her mixed race son. The mother remembers the life, and untimely death, of her son, and his struggle for identity in a multi-racial society.
Told through dance, physical theatre, music and multimedia, the play questions injustice within society. It also questions intolerance, but above all, it honours the value of relationships, love, and hope.
Highly acclaimed since its premiere in 2007, As the Mother of a Brown Boy showcases Chickenshed’s unique performance style. It concludes the Chickenshed ‘Just Theatre’ season, which ‘puts questions of Justice centre stage’ .
Accolades for As the Mother of a Brown Boy include:
‘Best Original Work by a Collective/Ensemble’ (2007 Total Theatre Awards (shortlist))
‘Freedom of Expression Award’ (Amnesty International at the Edinburgh Fringe)
