Five children trying to understand the grown up world.
Why do adults drink coffee? Is it hard to hold on to past memories? Where did you get your suit and your powers and your shield?
Grown Up is about being a child and about a grown up. On their quest to understand the world around them, the young performers speak the words of adult interviewees asked questions from children about being a grown up. Along the way they dance, play, struggle and turn cartwheels to be themselves.
This is the latest show from People’s Theatre Award winners Emily Lim (Brainstorm, NT resident director) and Gameshow (Dancing Bear, Dancing Bear), following their sold out work-in-progress performance during CPT’s Sprint 2016 festival. The show is devised from interviews with people who live and work nearby the theatre, in collaboration with a local cast from Netley Primary School.
Gameshow is run by Matt Ryan and Matthew Evans. They have created theatre and performance projects together since 2008. They want to make audiences think and feel in new ways.
Emily Lim is a director who specialises in creating work with non-professional performers. Directing credits include Brainstorm at the National Theatre’s Temporary Theatre and The Kilburn Passion at the Tricycle Theatre.
